Attention everyone, voting has closed for Citys WORST PLAYER EVER!!! Quiet please. Thank you. ahhh , who am I kidding? No-one voted. Even if they did, I would have rigged it to make sure that this player won, (or lost depending on how empty the gla s is)Viewing Matt:-)s article on the best players to play for The Blues, i got thinking(always dangerous!!), who is the worst player to play for City? I am only young, I cannotlook back too far. I came up with a few namesGelson Fernandes? Bernado Corradi?Israeli International Tal Ben Haim? Georgios Samaras?Danny Mills? After, ooh, seconds of deliberation, I decided that none of these fitted the bill, in fact, no one was anywhere close of toppling the player destined for top spot. There is no use of doing a top ten, this player was, quite po sibly, the worst player ever to grace the Maine Road pitch. He could turn a game around faster than a blink of the eye.I am talking about the one, the only (thankfully) drum roll please- Christian Negouai.Keegans Madne sOn 13th November 2001, an era started. City manager Kevin Keegan, somehow, convinced the Board to splash out 1.5 million for him from Charleroi and, just after his arrival, K3 spoke to the club website:Christian can be whatever you want a midfielder to be. He is big, strong, is an excellent ball winner and he can play. For someone so tall he has got very good balance and talking to the Manchester City fans, whose opinions I respect, a few of them say we havent had a tackling midfielder, someone who can really win the ball, for some time.He will be very dangerous from set pieces as he was a centre forward and he has been moved back into midfield. Because of that he has the qualities in the final third from free kicks and corners to be a threat.I think that King Kev must have been talking about someone else (po sibly midfielder Eyal Berkovic who he purchased 4 months earlier). Yes, thatll be it. He couldnt have been Ethan Greenidge Jersey talking about Negouai, could he? Negouai in a City shirt A rare sightDid He Do Anything? In a word: No.In his first game (atwo onedefeat to Portsmouth) he forced himself in front of the great midfielder, Kevin Horlock (He must be something special. Oh, how wrong we were). In his second match in a City shirt, he was branded a cheat by Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore for punching an equaliser just before the break in atwo onevictory over Rotherham (Ali Benarbia netted a winner with a 25 yard strike with three minutes remaining on the stadium clock)In his third match against Blackburn he was sent off after a stay of 26 minutes and never cemented his place on the starting team sheet for the remainder of the season as City claimed the first division title with easeHe suffered a plethora of injuries thereafter which further pushed him down the midfield pecking order (as if there was anywhere to go). During this series of injuries, he sought treatment abroad against the advice of the City medics. The treatment in question went badly wrong and Negouai was forced to have operations on both his legs to save him from a double amputation. He mi sed the next season recovering personally,I prefer the term skiving. In 2003-4 he forced his way into the reserve team but was sent off early on in the season after flooring a Sunderland player after being on the receiving end of a strong tackle. He did play for City again, in the UEFA Cup preliminary first qualifying round against the imaginativelynamed Total Network Solutions (now The New Saints). He actually scored!!! Evidence from You Tube: During a boring season sitting on the sidelines, Negouai found himself on a plane bound for Austria as a result of a loan deal that took him off our hands for a while they discovered how bad he was and, kindly, returned him. Dopegate ScandalThe season suddenly got much more exciting for City fans when Negouai was found guilty of mi sing an FA drugs test earlier in the season. After the Dopegate scandal he found himself with a reprimand and a mere fine of 2000. Compare this, if you will, to the punishment of a six month ban that Rio Ferdinand received for mi sing his drugs test. Ferdinands lawyers drew comparisons between the two cases but Sepp Blatter (head of FIFA) claimed that Negouai was willing to take the test but stuck in traffic. Negouai said that he nipped to the airport to pick his mother up. Negouais lawyers said that he didnt understand English enough to be able to attend the test. Whoever was right, isnt justice great?!?!Negouai, over his time at City but especially after Dopegate, had become a cult hero yet, despite pre sure put on the coaches to keep him playing to draw the crowds, he only played three more matches for the Blues. The first, atwo onelo s to Arsenal Youth in the League Cup. He came off the bench in the 70th minute and returned to itthirteen minutes later after a clash with a twelve year old in an Arsenal shirt Aldrick Rosas Jersey forced him off injured. However, his finest (and shortest) hour in a Blue shirt came in a lo s against Everton in the Premiership. He entered the playing arena in the 80th minute, coming on for the legend that is Jon Macken. He, promptly, departed the pitch three minutes later after collecting a straight red card for a shin high tackle on Everton player Marcus Bent who scored the winner. If Carlsberg did impact substitutions. This wouldnt be one of them.Keegan had completely lost his rag with Negouai and swiftly dispatched him to Coventry City on loan. He played two games for the Sky Blues before picking up an injury and Coventry promptly sent him back. When he returned, the club was under new management. He found Stuart Pearce in temporary charge in place of the recently departed Kevin Keegan.Negouai no appearances under Psycho, an unused sub against Liverpool. Amid high expectations that we would find ourselves quickly down to ten men, as soon as he arrived on the pitch, City fans found themselves as we finished the game with a full complement of players after a 90th minute winner form Kiki Musampa. On 7th July 2005, afterthree years, seven months and 24 days, an era came to an end as he was shipped off to Standard de Lige in an end of season spring clean (which also saw the departure of SWP to Chelsea for 21 million). In this time, he only brought happine s to the club (I know, but hear me out):He scored Chase Hansen Jersey two goals = Happine sHe got sent off twice (played with ten men better than playing with eleven and Negouai) = More Happine sHe left = Who can say they werent ecstatic when the news filtered through?Today, believe it or not, he is unattached. His last game was in the colours of FC Bru sels for whom he scored no goals in five appearances.Record Breaker? Are you joking?Amazingly not. Negouai has his name in the record books. In 2006, while playing for Standard de Lige, he actuallyset a scoring record (I know!!!). Eleven seconds into their game against KVS Westerloo, the ball found its way past the Westerloo keeper. The last touch came off the foot of the prolific, ex-City goalscorer, Neoguai. This goal was the fastest in the history of the Belgian League.Celebrating his record-breaking goalChristian Negouais City Career in Numbers:Appearances 11Starts 4 Unused Sub 9Goals 2 (1 UEFA Cup vs. TNS, 1 League vs. Rotherham)Yellow Cards 2Red Cards 2 (1 vs. Blackburn, 1 vs. Everton)Minutes on Pitch 377 League 243Cup 44UEFA Cup 90Minutes per Goal 188.5Appearances per Goal 5.5Usele sne s Factor 12.4 (out of 10)All-in all, Negouai was a terrible excuse for a footballer (Steven, he was far worse than Gelson Fernandes). He was that bad, you wouldnt wish his failure on the small-time club from Stretford. OK, maybe you would, but you get my point. It makes you wonder who is telling these players that it is a good idea to play profe sional football. There must be a wold of coachesout there suggesting to people on the street that they should play football. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!Christian Negouai Citys WORST PLAYER EVER!!!Anyway, rant over. Goodnight and Happy Reading.
